A crusher is a machine that reduces large-sized solid materials to the desired particle size. It consists of devices such as coarse crushing, fine crushing, and pneumatic conveying systems, and achieves its crushing purpose through high-speed impact. By harnessing wind energy to produce powder in a single step, it eliminates the traditional screening process. It is primarily used in various industries, including mining and building materials. Based on the size of the feed material or the crushed material, crushers can be classified into coarse crushers, pulverizers, and ultrafine pulverizers. During the crushing process, four types of external forces are applied to solids: shear, impact, compression, and grinding. Shear is primarily used in coarse crushing (breaking) and pulverizing operations, and is suitable for crushing or pulverizing tough, fibrous materials as well as large-sized chunks.

Impact crushing is primarily used in grinding operations and is suitable for crushing brittle materials. Rolling crushing is mainly employed in fine-grinding (ultrafine grinding) operations and is appropriate for ultrafine grinding of most types of materials. Grinding is primarily used in ultrafine grinding or in ultra-large-scale grinding equipment, and is ideal for further grinding after the initial crushing process.

In practice, the crushing process is often driven by several external forces acting simultaneously. However, high-end crushers are custom-designed according to the specific crushing environment. Based on the D90 standard—the particle size at which 90% of the material reaches the desired fineness—crushers can be categorized as follows: coarse crushers (below 60 mesh), fine crushers (60–120 mesh), ultrafine crushers (120–300 mesh), and superfine crushers (above 300 mesh).
