When processing wood, some users often encounter two types of machines: one is called a template crusher, and the other is a wood shredder. Both machines are designed to break wood into small pieces. It’s easy for people to get confused and not know which machine to choose. Below, Chengyi Machinery will explain the similarities and differences between these two machines: Similarities: Both the template crusher and the wood shredder aim to process wood into small pieces. The output from both machines consists of irregularly sized and uneven fragments—what we commonly refer to as “crushing.” Both machines can handle raw materials such as wooden boards.

It’s easy for people to get confused and not know which machine to choose. Below, Chengyi Machinery will clarify the similarities and differences between these two machines: Similarities: Both the template crusher and the wood shredder aim to process wood into small pieces. The output from both machines consists of irregularly sized and uneven fragments—what we commonly refer to as “crushing.” Both machines can handle raw materials such as wooden boards.

Differences: The key difference between these two machines is that the wood shredder feeds material from the top through an open feed inlet. Inside, one or more toothed rollers interlock and bite into the material, crushing it—much like the principle behind common scissors. The discharged material exits from the bottom. This machine does not come equipped with a metal separator. On the other hand, the template crusher typically includes both an infeed and an outfeed conveyor system. The raw material is placed onto the infeed conveyor belt, which transports it to the feed inlet. Once inside the machine, the material is crushed by the internal crushing mechanism, and then the crushed material is conveyed out by the discharge conveyor. Template crushers can be fitted with a metal separator, which removes metallic objects such as nails, yielding a higher-purity raw material.

Therefore, wood shredders are suitable only for shredding wood boards and timber that contain no metal objects. In contrast, template crushers can handle materials such as templates, bamboo plywood, shelving units, racks, pallets, and other similar items that often contain a significant amount of metal objects like nails. Moreover, they are well-suited for production environments that employ either fully automatic or semi-automatic operations.
